5th Annual Children's Aikido Weekend
|
|
Our 5th Annual Children's Aikido Weekend will be held on the weekend of May 18th and 19th. This is an exciting opportunity for our students. Children who attend this event always return to their regular classes with renewed enthusiasm for their Aikido training and many stories to tell. The weekend is designed to be fun but focused.
On Saturday, in addition to Ki and Aikido training, the schedule will include outdoor weapons training, a tie-dye project and a recreational swim. On Sunday, we will have exclusive use of a local park and our instructors will teach the application of Ki principles to outdoor sports and activities. This will be followed by an outdoor lunch and cookies with whipped cream on top!
Brenda Tam Sensei, the head of our federation's children's Aikido programs, will be leading the training. The weekend is open to all students in our programs under the age of 18.

Student Voices - The Roll Club
|
|
Children can join our rolling club by completing a large number of rolls. These rolls are done before and after class as time allows. Students volunteer for this challenge and their roll count is posted in the dojo. Once they have reached their goal we recognize their accomplishment by posting it on our web site.
Last month Noah Gleason became the latest (and youngest) member of the 2,000 roll club (platinum level). Congratulations on a job well done!

We welcomed some special visitors to one children's class in late March. Five Japanese exchange students joined the class and all trained Aikido for the first time. It was great fun! Thank you to Naomi Cheng for arranging their visit and to our Japanese-speaking students for translating for our visitors.

It was an honor to host Calvin Tabata Sensei during the last week of March. He taught three evenings of classes including Ki, Kiatsu, adult Aikido, children's Aikido and advanced Aikido. He also conducted a Saturday morning Kiatsu workshop. Thank you, Sensei!
We had an informal social gathering on Friday evening, which was great fun. Thank you to Dante Roa for organizing the get-together.
